The Setting

A beautiful view of Vilcabamba, EcuadorWe offer San Pedro ceremonies each week in a cozy, private, safe, and relaxing space, The countryside around Santa Isabel, Ecuador (just outside of Cuenca) is stunningly beautiful and provides the backdrop for what is sure to be a profound experience for you, as it has consistently been for us as well.

The Medicine

Slices of the powerful cactus, San PedroSan Pedro, also known as Huachuma or Wachuma, is a sacred cactus that has been used in shamanic plant medicine ceremonies for thousands of years in the Amazonian region.

It is said to be a plant teacher, and you will quickly discover why as you begin to have a conversation with the spirit of the plant, which is known as Grandfather San Pedro. Because, just a like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have even felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.

The Ceremony

plant-teacherEvery day starts with a warm cup of tea of coffee and friendly conversation as we settle into the new day.

Then, around 10a.m. Steve smudges us all with white sage to clear any sort of negative energies that may be present.

Next, we sit in a small circle, and Steve shares some basic guidelines to the ceremony, and then one-by-one, we each share our intentions with the medicine. This might be as simple as “My intention is to know myself better”, or you might choose to go into more detail.

The medicine is then poured in a glass for each person, and after taking as much time with it as you would prefer, you are welcomed to drink the medicine and find a nice place to settle in.

From then on, the primary element to the ceremony is a conversation that will begin in your head between you and the medicine. You might liken this to speaking to yourself silently, although it will very likely soon be clear that the entity you’re speaking to is a very wise plant teacher who is lovingly known as Grandfather San Pedro.

Just like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have ever felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.

You will feel the primary effects of the medicine for about 10 hours, during which time you’ll be given plenty of space for solitude, surrounded by the amazing beauty of the Ecuadorian countryside.

This provides many opportunities to look inside yourself in many different ways, and you will have an unlimited amount of Steve’s support, not only as a warm, gentle human being, but also as a trained and experienced counselor, with specialties in addictions and childhood trauma.

Steve is always within earshot if support is needed, and he checks on you periodically to see how you’re doing. You’re also welcome to roam around the property to find whatever little perch suits you best.

Midway through the ceremony, fresh fruit is served, which is always a welcomed treat, and at the end of each ceremony, a warm and hardy meal is served which really warms your bones to the core.

Finally, Steve provides angel card readings which you will likely find quite illuminating and may provide some clarification to your experiences throughout the day.

The Facilitator

The San Pedro ceremony facilitator - Steve Eagle SewellWorkshops are held at the Eagle’s Nest – home of Steve Eagle Sewell – who is self-described as a plant medicine specialist and has chosen to dedicate his life to providing plant medicine to those who need it most.

And after a 2-year apprenticeship in Peru, he’s also facilitated ceremony for over 3,000 people and drank the medicine himself over 500 times. He is well acquainted with it’s healing power as the ultimate healer of addiction, dis-ease and dis-order.

The Bottom Line

If you want to discover who you are, what you believe in, how to heal, and how to find your path, you’ve found the right place 🙂

Steve and Samay know what they are doing in their sacred space with this sacred plant. I came into their safe container along with someone who had never ever done any plant medicines in their life. The two days were spiritually revealing for me and for the person with me, being able to reach places.. with physical, spiritual and in higher-dimensional consciousness that were previously unseen and unfelt, with each other.. I felt intense universal love and affection while breathing deeply and heavily in sync with the entirety of our creation… Truly sensing that every other organism was in sync with me in this process.. Steve also gave us great suggestions and excellent advice on how to follow on through in our journeys from there on.. and how to act on our intents.. I was eventually inspired to tattoo myself (my first two) with the rituals inscriptions from the temples at Huantar (of the San Pedro Shaman & the holy Drinker) which was a suggestion from Steve (in Peru) .. After seeing the inscriptions on these protected millennia-old Inca temples and realizing that the same sacrament had been in use for over 5000 years reproducing the visions I had just lived.. I felt an instant timeless unbounded connection with humanity and what it means to be human. Therby deciding to tattoo these inscriptions onto myself. It is really incredible to know that even after all those years the experience in terms of its spiritual significance not deteriorated.. Samay was able to provide us greatly nourishing meals, though provoking psychedelic conversation and took care of us with everything we needed like pure smoking tobacco to direct our intentions better during the rituals. The sacred safe container itself has all the qualities of being surreal and can only be described as magical. I was drawn towards sleeping with my eyes closed near the natural pond traveling the spaces the medicine took me into and also looking at the (pink) cows calmly grazing in the nearby fields. Their dogs however can sometimes be a little nosy, especially the younger ones but they know when you’re in a deep experience and need to be left alone.. The two volunteers we met while we were undergoing the experience were very warm, loving and helpful. San Pedro was truly a life-changing breakthrough experience in the hands of Steve and Samay!! I will be back again as soon as my travel gears get moving again.

Our experience with Steve and Samay did not go well. The 3 participants each had very disturbing, psychotic-like experiences which we felt was partly due to the quality of the space that was attempted as well as the brew of medicine we drank. I don’t feel this makes Steve or Samay bad people, however, I feel compelled to share my experience for those who come ahead.

This speaks loudly to the safety of a sacred container. This was the first time we’ve ever held ceremony outside of our own space and certainly the last. Great lesson. Thank you all.

I had a fantastic experience with Steve and Sammy. They are lovely people and really made my first San Pedro experience a fantastic one. The setting that Steve has cultivated is really something special. The property is extremely well cared for with many beautiful spaces, it is located on top of a ridge which gives breathtaking views and the range of plants and wildlife really makes for something unique. I also really loved the two dogs and playful kitten. If you are thinking of trying San Pedro I would strongly recommend this the place to go.

I felt so welcome and comfortable having my first San Pedro experience here. Steve and Sammy were great, so accommodating, made you feel right at home. The property is beautiful and the dogs and kitten as well as the butterflies and wildlife nearby we’re so comforting as the medicine was working. The experience in itself was deep and profound, worth it. I can’t wait until I have the opportunity to come back.

Steve and Samay have created an outstanding set and setting for your San Pedro experience. This was our first, and it really is beyond words.
The description of San Pedro as a teaching plant medicine is very accurate. Amazing what you can learn or “remember” during the experience…
The natural setting in the lower mountains of Ecuador seems to be a perfect complement to the medicine.
We felt safe, loved, and well taken care our entire stay.
We can’t thank Steve and Samay enough for sharing their space, love, and experience with us!
