We offer San Pedro ceremonies each week in a cozy, private, safe, and relaxing space, The countryside around Santa Isabel, Ecuador (just outside of Cuenca) is stunningly beautiful and provides the backdrop for what is sure to be a profound experience for you, as it has consistently been for us as well.
San Pedro, also known as Huachuma or Wachuma, is a sacred cactus that has been used in shamanic plant medicine ceremonies for thousands of years in the Amazonian region.
It is said to be a plant teacher, and you will quickly discover why as you begin to have a conversation with the spirit of the plant, which is known as Grandfather San Pedro. Because, just a like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have even felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.
Every day starts with a warm cup of tea of coffee and friendly conversation as we settle into the new day.
Then, around 10a.m. Steve smudges us all with white sage to clear any sort of negative energies that may be present.
Next, we sit in a small circle, and Steve shares some basic guidelines to the ceremony, and then one-by-one, we each share our intentions with the medicine. This might be as simple as “My intention is to know myself better”, or you might choose to go into more detail.
The medicine is then poured in a glass for each person, and after taking as much time with it as you would prefer, you are welcomed to drink the medicine and find a nice place to settle in.
From then on, the primary element to the ceremony is a conversation that will begin in your head between you and the medicine. You might liken this to speaking to yourself silently, although it will very likely soon be clear that the entity you’re speaking to is a very wise plant teacher who is lovingly known as Grandfather San Pedro.
Just like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have ever felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.
You will feel the primary effects of the medicine for about 10 hours, during which time you’ll be given plenty of space for solitude, surrounded by the amazing beauty of the Ecuadorian countryside.
This provides many opportunities to look inside yourself in many different ways, and you will have an unlimited amount of Steve’s support, not only as a warm, gentle human being, but also as a trained and experienced counselor, with specialties in addictions and childhood trauma.
Steve is always within earshot if support is needed, and he checks on you periodically to see how you’re doing. You’re also welcome to roam around the property to find whatever little perch suits you best.
Midway through the ceremony, fresh fruit is served, which is always a welcomed treat, and at the end of each ceremony, a warm and hardy meal is served which really warms your bones to the core.
Finally, Steve provides angel card readings which you will likely find quite illuminating and may provide some clarification to your experiences throughout the day.
Workshops are held at the Eagle’s Nest – home of Steve Eagle Sewell – who is self-described as a plant medicine specialist and has chosen to dedicate his life to providing plant medicine to those who need it most.
And after a 2-year apprenticeship in Peru, he’s also facilitated ceremony for over 3,000 people and drank the medicine himself over 500 times. He is well acquainted with it’s healing power as the ultimate healer of addiction, dis-ease and dis-order.
If you want to discover who you are, what you believe in, how to heal, and how to find your path, you’ve found the right place 🙂

January 15, 2019 at 7:52 amAfter a somewhat negative experience with Ayahuasca, I was concerned that perhaps I could not be helped with plant medicine and it was not for me.
I am so glad that I heard about San Pedro and Steve’s retreat in Ecuador.
From the beginning, Steve was very positive and helpful to sooth my fears and concerns. He told me San Pedro is a gentle, but powerful medicine and he was 10000 percent correct.
I had a very beautiful time at their retreat and with the medicine. I tend to have some anxiety with male energy, but spending time with Steve and Samay set me at ease and I was able to feel safe, comfortable and supported. Those are not always easy things for me to feel. They really do provide a ‘safe space to feel what you need to feel’.
The medicine itself was more powerful than I imagined it would be, yet at the same time more lovely and gentle than I could of hoped. After trying Aya, I have to admit I was terrified to sit with San Pedro. All of my fears were completely unfounded and I had amazing, insightful journeys that I have already found valuable and useful in improving the relationships that matter most to me.
After sitting with San Pedro, I would never ever return to Aya as a medicine. Suffering is a choice, and for me, this was a way to access the same work without the suffering. I want to learn things the beauty way.
Thank you again to the team at San Pedro Workshops for the beautiful experiences, amazing journeys, delicious food, and profound insights. I hope to return again soon and spend time with this wonderful family, in a beautiful place with this amazing medicine.
I would recommend it for anybody.

December 6, 2018 at 5:47 pmI recently had the opportunity to spend 6 weeks with Steve and Samay. Communing with San Pedro, a powerful yet gentle plant spirit, is a sacred experience that these two facilitate masterfully. The setting is ideal — a beautiful piece of land in the hills, surrounded by flowers and blessed with comfortable, sunny weather. Their two medicine dogs, Squiggly and Bruno, are an integral part of the experience as well; they will lie down next to you all day and journey with you while you are in the medicine. And their adorable kitten Angel, the newest addition to their family, will be a great medicine cat too someday.
I had tried San Pedro a few times before coming to this center, and Steve and Samay’s brew is by far the most potent that I have ever come across. They put a lot of effort into making sure their medicine is of the highest quality; it is strong enough that guests only have to drink a small glass in order to get an entire day’s worth of journeying. I learned many lessons in the form of intense visuals and emotional insights during my ceremonies. The more times I drank the medicine, the more my experiences built on each other and the more I was able to converse directly with the spirit of San Pedro. The medicine is generous and wise, and will answer any question that you pose to it, from “What is the meaning of life?” to “Why was I born?” to “What is the nature of God?” It is nearly impossible to have a bad day with San Pedro, as the plant will remind you what it is like to laugh, breathe, and feel again.
I am so grateful to have crossed paths with this beautiful medicine family. The profound healing effects of San Pedro are evident simply from the way that Steve and Samay lead their lives. I look forward to returning someday to pick up where I left off with the spirit of San Pedro. Much love XO Liz

November 8, 2018 at 1:00 pmI had the opportunity to sit with San Pedro in this surreal and serene setting last week. The venue is located on the top of a mountain surrounded by valleys, forest and other high peaks in the distance. The property it’s self is filled with life and wonderful energy. One of my favorites was the fresh living water running through the property. I really enjoyed putting my hands in the water as it runs past and connecting to Earth. The service was great as well. The people that run this place make sure you are taken care of through out and create a safe space for all. The medicine was very potent and did not upset my stomach. I also loved the angel card readings, the animal spirit readings and the view of the starry sky at night. I highly recommend this experience at this location. I left feeling much more connected and aligned. Filled with Gratitude!!

November 3, 2018 at 12:43 pmHello,
This was an amazing safe space and experience. Truly believe both Samay and Steve have genuine intentions in the use of the medicine within the general population. Both individuals have qualities that generate this great complement of wisdom.
The complex is located in altitude overlooking full 360 views of rain forest. At night there is a natural orchestra that blends amazingly with the strong glow of the stars.
Also the setup of the workshop is quite easy to process and to follow. The Pup’s are amazing spiritual nurses that take great care of you.
In addition, I had the great pleasure to share the medicine with individuals who are truly interested in bringing higher consciousness to their everyday life. There is also a strict policy to respect space that everyone is gratefully complying.
Anyone who is curious about finding benefit from this beautiful plant should not hesitate in contacting Steve or Samay.

October 21, 2018 at 3:09 pmThis was my first time drinking San Pedro, and I had a fantastic experience with Steve and Sammy. Their hacienda and surrounding valley are gorgeous, and I can’t imagine a more peaceful place to spend a day with the medicine.
I thought getting there would be a bit tricky, but Steve has a driver he uses regularly that picked me up from my hotel in Cuenca and drove me straight to their hacienda.
Steve and Sammy were very patient in guiding me through the process, and their two adorable dogs, Squiggly and Bruno, were my constant companions during the experience.
We drank at around 10am. Four hours later, Steve brought out some fruit and iced tea, and that evening Sammy cooked us a delicious stew with some chocolate peanut butter bars for dessert 😀
As for my experience with the medicine itself, I found I could choose the type of experience I wanted to have. When I thought about difficult emotions, San Pedro magnified those emotions and helped me recall the events surrounding them so I could process them. When I felt content with that, I could open my eyes and simply enjoy the visual spectacle.
All in all, if you’re considering taking part in a San Pedro ceremony, Steve and Sammy’s hacienda is the place to be!
