Marosa Healing Center

Iquitos, Loreto, Peru

Marosa is a Shipibo-family run center focused on the full breadth and potential of Amazonian plant medicine for healing the entire human system.

We are an integrative plant medicine village where you can live amongst our families while being offered the opportunity to heal from chronic illness and find your most profound purpose. We offer comfortable, private accommodations so that our patients have the personal space to integrate their ayahuasca ceremonies. Marosa is not a luxury-based center and does not invest in luxury-type amenities. Instead, we invest in healers with extraordinary skills to give you the best possible outcome, and keep our max ceremony occupancy to 14, inclucing apprentices and facilitators. If you are looking for an experience catered to a western lifestyle, you may want to choose another retreat center. However, if you want to experience the full depth of the Shipibo tradition and the possibilities of plant dieting, this is the place for you. Our retreats start every Sunday and are customizable for your needs on a week-to-week basis.  We offer stays from 7 days to 90 days. Patients that stay at least 11 days will be allowed to participate in Master Plant Diets.

Marosa Healing Center is owned by Maestra Angela Sanchez Rios, who has over twenty years of experience working with Ayahuasca and is one of the most respected shamans in Iquitos. She treats her patients as if they were her children. Her care is not just during ayahuasca ceremonies. She tends to your unique needs by providing many different types of medicine, including plant vapor baths and plant tonics, and prepares all of the master diets for those who are dieting. Her smiles and laughter are infectious.

I did a 7-day retreat at Marosa Healing Center in mid-May, and it was my second time working with ayahuasca. The setting in the jungle is peaceful and raw — perfect for going inward. The shamans were incredible, the facilitators genuinely caring, and the ceremonies were deep, powerful, and safe.

Compared to my first retreat, I was able to surrender more and go deeper. The integration support was solid too — daily sharing, quiet reflection, and space to process.

If you’re looking for an authentic, grounded, and heart-led ayahuasca experience, Marosa is the place.

The days we spent at Marosa were truly some of the best of my life.
Now, a little less dramatic and romantic—let me be more practical: we spent 8 days at the center, and our experience was absolutely wonderful. From the very first moment you arrive, you realize that the immersion and connection with the jungle are unmatched. It brings you back to the purest essence of being human—reborn in nature’s womb… surrounded by lush vegetation, stunning birds with vibrant plumage and songs, soft white sand that’s perfect for walking barefoot all day, and nearby spots with streams and water to bathe in or simply contemplate.

The facilities are basic but very well maintained. There are several shared spaces, including the dining area, the ceremonial Maloca, and a resting zone with hammocks and rocking chairs. The cabins are set apart from the main areas, which is perfect for relaxation or going inward. The beds are very comfortable and the sheets are always clean. Bathrooms are cleaned several times a day and, although there are occasional interruptions in water supply, the staff is quick to respond and sort things out. Keep in mind that the showers use natural (unheated) water.

The ceremonies are exquisite—intense and inviting deep work with the medicine. Maestra Angela, Maestro Elias, and the rest of their family offer a truly loving presence and it’s clear they have deep experience in the path of shamanism. They live in absolute harmony with the surrounding environment, and there is a deep respect for nature and its rhythms in every corner. It’s the ideal setting to heal, to deepen your connection with the plant, and to receive its many gifts and teachings.
