TierraMitica is a healing and research center in the beautiful unspoiled Fasaquihui gorge in the spectacular high jungle of Peru, 40 km by road from the city of Tarapoto. A paradise of 80 hectares (197 acres) of lush jungle with river and waterfalls, full of wild life, monkeys, blue morpho butterflies, hummingbirds and much more… It is the permanent home of the transformative Mythic Voyage Ayahuasca Workshop and the Embrace the Medicine Ayahuasca Retreats.
It is also an art center and the home of a community fully dedicated and trained to our healing work.
Our mission is to create a place where people are helped to transcend their personal wounds as well as our collective wound, to restore their trust in the wisdom of the world we live in, in themselves and in humanity, to provide a haven that offers everything we would like our own sisters, brothers, mothers and ourselves to find in order to absorb the gifts and healing insights of the medicine and the ceremonies. We want for any one of our guests, in groups of a maximum of 12 people, to find here a place where they feel at home, safe, taken care of, supported and guided, so they can go as deep as they need in their healing process.
We work with a team of Shipibo Maestros and Maestras, that we have chosen not only for their experience and their power -that you will both feel strongly during the ceremonies- but also for their passion for their sacred work, their dedication to the healing, and their genuine attention and love for each single participant. We do ceremonies outdoors, since, due to the altitude, we have the luxury of being free of mosquitoes, under the moon and the stars on a wooden floor, were the icaros, the traditional healing chants of the Shipibos, are accompanied by the symphony of the river and the jungle.
We provide modern accommodations, with hot showers, comfortable beds, clear spring water and gourmet Ayahuasca diet food prepared with love.
We offer three different programs, the Mythic Voyage, the Embrace the Medicine 6 days, the Embrace the Medicine 11 days.
The Mythic Voyage:
It is a unique process, a fully guided, intensive and holistic workshop of 11 days for life transformation, and the only workshop of its kind in the world actually GUARANTEEING results, the success in fulfilling the guarantee judged by the participants themselves.
It is not focused on the Ayahuasca but on the end result: total transformation on every layer of human functionality and on every aspect of life for a beautiful, happy, inspired, creative life full of enthusiasm, ideas and love. It is holistic because it deals with seven layers of human functionality: our emotional, physical, cognitive or intellectual, philosophical, energetic, sensory and symbolic bodies to achieve a common internal direction and true, long lasting change. During the Mythic Voyage, intuitive, simple enough for a five-year-old to understand answers to existential questions like what exactly is the soul, what is enlightenment, who are we as human beings, why do we all feel bad about ourselves, why the universe exists and for what purpose, what is the reason why humans exist, and many more, are found that actually make sense.
During the 11 days, Ayahuasca ceremonies are not done for the experience but in order to find specific, practical answers to problems that make us suffer and blocks that stop us from living life to our full potential. We teach and guide people on how to effectively navigate and interpret the ceremony experience, diving deeper and deeper into our internal world, our subconscious, our belief systems that determine only who we are and how we perceive everything around us but also everything that we feel and think, our senses, our health as well as our memories. In contrast with retreats, the number of ceremonies is not fixed but varies according to the flow of the workshop and can vary from as many as six to as few as two.
Embrace the Medicine:
This program is an Ayahuasca retreat with two different formulas of 6 or 11 days, with respectively 3 and 6 Ayahuasca ceremonies.
The Ayahuasca communicates through the symbolic language, so we offer sharing circles and consultations to prepare you for ceremony and to decipher together the messages, the visions and the insights lived during the night. This way you can gain clarity on what has happened and what your next step should be. The Ayahuasca is a navigable experience, so if you wish, we can teach you how to collaborate with the Ayahuasca instead of being a simple observer, how to guide your own journey through a very precise and focused intention to go where is needed to find the answers and insights that will make a real difference in your life. The more you know how to navigate it, the more you will feel safe and free to explore, the more conscious you are of your experience and the clearer the results will be.
The guide of the retreat and one or two trained assistants are always presents in ceremonies, to support and assist the participants in anything they may need, as much for practical matters than in their personal process.
We have certified yoga instructors in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, who can give classes every day during the Embrace the Medicine, for beginners or for advanced, an art studio available for you to create, an art gallery dedicated to the myth of the Grandmother Ayahuasca with 19 murals painted by visionary artists from all over the world, a natural pool by the waterfall, and plenty of land to explore and enjoy the wildlife, everything for our guests to feel inspired, nurtured, to feel their thirst for everything beautiful life has to offer.

November 27, 2014 at 12:00 amwell it is hard to sum up what Tierra Mitica is all about without writing an entire book although i will do my best to cover the important things.
essentially i went because while i had the perfect picture, a wife, a beautiful 4 year old daughter, 2 nice cars, 2 successful restaurants, regular overseas holidays and so on, i knew that i was not waking up a happy man each day. there was something missing inside…..
i had heard plenty about ayahuasca and had done quite a bit of research, i was expecting it to miraculously change my life. looking for a quick fix. this was not taken lightly, i had struggled with happiness and fulfilment for a long time!
so i arrived at the jungle retreat (no mosquitoes!!) and was adequately impressed by the pristine environment and natural surrounds. there is a waterfall to swim under which was very cool. especially after 30 hours of transit coming from Australia. the food was really tasty and designed to work with the ayahuasca ceremonies to reduce the purging reactions that can be quite intense. we were all bunked up together (11 other participants across 3 rooms) and 5 hosts slash shared our space. there were humming birds, incredibly rare butterflies, monkeys, apparently sloths too although i didn’t personally see one. overall things were pretty cool.
so i thought!? once we started the mythic voyage i was shocked. this was no regular ayahuasca retreat, this was an intense, confrontational, explorative workshop with a focus on finding all of the things that hold us back in life, good or bad. while i was not expecting the process to be as intense (purely my own constructed expectation) i knew that something special was happening. i was confronted on so many levels by things i never even imagined were issues within myself. i was shocked at the stuff inside me!
once this all started coming out i was hooked, i could see that by exposing these issues there was hope to resolve them. i trusted (trusting Mikis the host is essential!!!) that there was no bad intentions by the exposure and knew that if i had the courage to see this through i would get the results i had come here for.
each day was an emotional roller coaster. high, low, flat, drained, exhausted and everything in between. the intense feelings could really test you some days. thoughts of quitting were not uncommon in the group. thankfully the support team of Tierra Mitica staff were great, especially Ferd, he is an absolute legend! he has a long history with spiritual practice and had some profound insights that kept me focussed. at the end of the day i was not there for a haircut, i wanted results and i had travelled across the world at reasonable expense and in need of life change. THANKS Ferd for all of your support, you are an incredible human being.
so i kept my focus and commitment to not quitting. over the 10 days some did quit and i can completely understand that people could not trust the process when being challenged and tested about things that they were not ready to deal with. it is essential that you want to make change even if it is areas that you were not aware had held you back. Mikis finds things in you that are not easily discoverable. there is a whole book required to explain the shit he does. trust him or don’t it is up to you but i will sure as hell testify that his techniques (although confronting) are miraculous.
the blending of psychology, spirituality, sharmans, shipibo, ayahuasca, logic and genuine trust & happiness are a powerful set of tools to make significant and long lasting changes in people. there is no point going into detail as i could not explain the processes but people that had long suffered depression and split personality disorders were getting results that were not making sense!? how was this guy seemingly curing incurable afflictions in people that had long suffered these issues. the group was made up of a diverse group of people that included psychologists, doctors, business people, drug addicts and so on. watching Mikis work on each one with his techniques was truly amazing (don’t forget confrontational).
my life has changed for ever. my belief system is now under my control and i decide on all things in my life. emotions, happiness, direction, hope and success are now 100% in my hands. i control my destiny and i can choose what ever the bloody hell i want to have in life.
my wife cannot believe the change and my daughter is responding so well to the change in me. my friends didn’t even know i had these feelings but now i am back they are a little rattled as to how i have changed so much. it is truly unbelievable. no matter how much i write, until you go there it will just be a story. go there and see for yourself. whatever reason you think stops you tell it to f..k off and do it. money, time off work, time away from family, what ever the bloody hell it is do not let it prevent you from obtaining true and lasting happiness. you deserve it!! everyone deserves it!!! GO GO GO!
lastly i just want to say that it is easy for people to write this work off. those who lack the commitment to look at themselves honestly and trust that change is achievable obviously need to blame others for their failure. i am well aware from my experiences there and by the negative reviews i have seen online. there is one thing consistent with them all, they all failed to complete the work and did not trust the process. see it through, trust the process and do not let your fears scare you out of seeing what holds you back. do all of this and you are on the way to enlightenment.

It is truly an intense, highly focused program designed to get the point(s) of your emotional blockages that hold you back from experiencing your true nature. If you are willing to open up to the deepest parts of your heart and expose those depths in an open environment, you will truly experience a breakthrough in the understanding of your true reality. This is possible with the combination of the intense workshop and the Aya ceremonies. Fear not, for you are truly able to accomplish this feat with determination and willingness. We never actually made it to Tierra Mitica thanks to the owner of the place, whose immature and ignorant behavior during the registration process has proven to be most unprofessional and completely unacceptable.
No one with a healthy state of mind and sense of integrity should consider going there. We have lost 1700 USD to this cheating man who did nothing but preach down at us from his golden throne, completely in denial of his own limitation and darkness and projecting all kinds of false assumptions onto us, especially me, since I was doing most of the communicating. He sees himself as the victim and refuses to return our money, even though we cancelled in a timely manner in compliance with Tierra Mitica?s terms and conditions!
Due to a mistake or ?bug? on their website we had seemingly registered my mother for their Yin Yang Mythic Voyage which costs 2800 USD and is not for those who have not attended a regular Mythic Voyage before.
There are two drop down menus on the registration page (one for the Yin Yang Voyage, 2800USD and one for the Regular Voyage 1680USD) where you can pick the dates you want to attend. Obviously we opened the regular one and picked the end of November dates, as these were the only ones my mother could take time off work.
On April 27th it dawned on me that something can?t be right, because my mother?s dates in November were longer than those of the regular voyage I registered myself for in September.
Even though I had explained the problem several times insistently, even attached a screen shot of it, Mikis remains convinced that we intentionally registered my mom for Yin Yang and that we do not understand the difference between the two voyages and to this day that bug on his website has not been fixed, in other words the November dates have not been taken out from the regular mythic voyage drop down menu.
Below is the entire email conversation from beginning to end, that involved Lies (a very nice girl who does registration administration for the center), Mikis Hasson (the owner of Tierra Mitica), Marianne (my mother, for whom I was communicating, because her English is not very good) and Laura (my friend who had every intention to join us on this journey until Mikis came into the picture and worsened the situation with every new message he sent).

hello TM family, I am interested in coming to Tierra Mitica for a 3 Month Work Exchange – maybe this summer or fall. I had my first ayahuasca retreat experience in Peru in 2012 and in October 2013 I returned to the same place to spent two intensive months. I have been back home for three months now and it is becoming more and more clear that I must return once more. I have come across your website today which resonates with me very strongly. I understand one must register for a Mystic Voyage and after completion, if the community agrees, is able to stay on for a work exchange. I like that a lot 🙂
I am wondering what dates the Mystic Voyages usually start and how the work exchange program is structured?

Dear Sarah, The Mythic Voyage is the most powerful, transformational and magical adventure of a lifetime. A very intense, holistic, ten day workshop like no other. Doing the mythic voyage is not a payment to become a volunteer, it should be an objective and destination on itself. The most important is that your intention, coming to Tierramitica, shouldn’t be to volunteer, but to be happy. The mythic voyage will give you new understanding and new vision for your life, what you will choose to do after is unpredictable and depends solely on what you find about yourself and what you want out of life.
You are welcome to a Mythic Voyage at any time if you choose. You can find the dates on the website under Contact > Registration. The April Mythic Voyage starts in a couple of days and the next one is in June. The cost is $1680, this includes the ceremonies with the best Shipibo shamans , eight to twelve hour work shops every day to help you understand, navigate and get the most out of the gifts and insights of Grandmother Ayahuasca, shared rooms, hot showers and excellent gourmet Ayahuasca diet foods made with love. If after the Mythic Voyage you choose to stay here like I did, then the community will vote on you. The main criteria is direction and intention and not work skills.

This is not the Mythic Voyage, but the Yin and Yang Mythic Voyage, only for people who have already taken a Mythic Voyage before, you could call it level 2, locked until level 1 of the game is beaten 🙂
I sent an email to your mother a couple of days ago, because she had registered to the Yin and Yang MV because of a bug on our website and I suggested to change towards the Mythic Voyage in the beginning of November or the one in September.

We were not aware of this error before the registration of your mum, I will make sure it is removed as soon as possible, I’m sorry for the inconvenience.
With the risk of sounding like a wannabe preaching monk, I want to add that I’m sure there is a reason for this situation to have happened, whatever that reason may be.
Almost every Mythic Voyage we have a few people who are related to each other and who get to finally really know each other through it and connect truly for the first time. Maybe this is a chance for you and your mother or your friend to experience that privilege together. Or a chance for some other beautiful thing to happen. Just a thought I wanted to share 🙂
And of course, should it not be possible for your mum to come at a different time, we will consider the money to be a full coverage of your fee, owing you 20 bucks 🙂

If the only dates available for your mother and friend are exactly the days of the Yin and Yang, that means that they do not understand the importance of this, so they will not have the necessary intention and they will quit, thus wasting their holiday time and money. Any down payment that we have received can go towards paying for your Mythic Voyage in September, so basically you are fully paid up. But I do hope that you understand what you are getting yourself into, because the Voyage can be the most important event in your life.

you are jumping to conclusions. each one of us knows very well what we are getting ourselves into by signing up for a mythic voyage. my mother and I both have worked with the shipibo and ayahuasca before.
their availability isn’t exactly the dates of the yin yang. they could start on Nov25. if you can’t have them overlapping, then we’ll have to accept that.
I am not sure you are aware of the situation. this has nothing to do with intention. as my mother has already communicated, her job does not allow her to make big changes in vacation time. if she could, she would simply sign up for end of October! same goes for my friend. isn’t this the very reason why you offered to help find a solution?
so the only thing we actually do not understand clearly is what you meant by ‘wiggling the dates for us to find a golden line’? it sounded like you were willing to work something out. especially since you said that with goodwill all is possible.
predicting that they will quit, and basically telling us now that it isn’t possible if they can’t sign up for any of the dates already set by you, then that sounds very different! and we are back to square one.

The Yin and Yang is a Mythic Voyage, albeit a different one, and it does say on the site that it is different. We apologize for the confusion and we will see what can be done to make things clearer, but unfortunately unless we cancel it, there is no way to wiggle things around with only 4 days before available as range (many people are here a few days earlier anyway). I could have made the October Voyage later, but not by much because we always include a full moon, but your mother?s dates give me no possibility. She can try to change her holiday, it is still 7 months away. In reality, if she was having an operation, or the marriage of a daughter or any event deemed ??serious?? or justified by society she could arrange it. There was a time, in another life when I was a workaholic businessman and would never lose an hour of work because I thought the world would collapse if I did. I got sick and found out that it was fine for me to go to work at 11 am, nobody minded and I still got everything done because I had an acceptable reason. My mental health, my emotional health, my well being, my happiness were never good reasons, not for me and not for my bosses. Difficulties are self imposed, so maybe your mom and her friend, if motivated enough can find a solution. I tried, but other than cancel the Yin Yang Mythic Voyage there was none I could find, and many many people are looking forward to that one.

Dear Mikis,
Please excuse my silence up to this moment. This is mainly due to two reasons: one being finding the space within myself from which to communicate, and the second one being seeing how I could juggle my own dates around to somehow be able to harmonize my desired pursuits with every day life.
I acknowledge your comments regarding intention and committing to priorities, and I also acknowledge your point of view of how a voyage such as this one should take utmost priority – without necessarily agreeing with this point of view. For many years I have prioritized spiritual pursuits beyond professional and even personal ones, going to the extreme of forfeiting my health in order to be able to be where I wanted to be. This was due also to where I was in my personal life and the need I felt to have that level of commitment to my spiritual path, which I also saw as somehow separate from my daily life, notwithstanding always carrying my practice into my daily life regardless. I have done many retreats, pilgrimages, journeys and trainings that I was unable to find a healthier balance for. Fortunately, part of my growth has been to not see it as an either/or, but to be able to carry my life in a path that harmoniously flows both ways, so pursuing spirituality and personal development is no longer confronted with building my business. As a matter of fact, my business has been a way of manifesting my passion, mission and life path into my day to day life and I no longer feel the separation between both spectrums. It has come a full circle.
All this to say that during the month of October and November there are several professional commitments that I undertake, mostly under the form of European tradeshows we exhibit and visit (I run a health food distribution company, which I founded as a way of bringing nutritional healing into the communities we are able to touch) and undertaking the October, 30th voyage was very tight. There is a tradeshow in Sweden that ends on the 27th, so attending said voyage would mean pretty much flying straight from the show into Peru, after what will already have been 3-4 very exhausting days. I have suffered from adrenal fatigue for many years and have finally recovered – part of the recovery has entailed admitting that I have a tendency of pushing myself too much, of being afraid to “miss out” and having to choose between passions and wanting to be everywhere. Ideally, I would of course have loved to be able to fly back home for a couple days, recover, unpack and repack, then fly out to Peru at a later date.
Although I no longer want to see my spiritual pursuits as a sacrifice I have to make in other areas of my life, or as a choice between being responsible towards my company and co-workers, I have been following and studying the Buddhist path for long enough to know that the spiritual path is not always devoid of obstacles (or “maras” as we call them in Buddhism) that will arise and have to be surmounted in order to grow with the path.
