Temple of the Way of Light

The Temple of the Way of Light is a traditional plant-medicine shamanic healing center located in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest that offers intensive ayahuasca retreats with female and male Shipibo healers. We are dedicated to providing our guests with the opportunity to benefit from the ancient healing wisdom of the Shipibo people, and to helping this unique culture preserve its knowledge and identity in the 21st Century.

We work with some of the most respected and powerful healers (Onanya) from the Shipibo tribe. They are highly experienced, gentle, caring, and deeply dedicated to healing and embodying the wisdom and sincerity of their people. The healing traditions of the Shipibo people offer an ancient yet pioneering path to health, re-discovering our true nature and re-awakening to our true purpose.

The Temple firmly believes in respecting and honoring the ancient practices of the Onanya, experts in ayahuasca healing and plant-spirit shamanism of the Amazon. They bring a rich cultural and medicinal legacy to the healing process: time-honored rituals, intricate practices, an expansive cosmology, an encyclopedic knowledge of medicinal plants of the Amazon, and a far-reaching ancestral lineage.

The Temple has safely facilitated healing for thousands of people since 2007 and has forged an exemplary reputation for stringent safety protocols, compassionate care, and a balance of female and male healers and facilitators. We have used our experience to fine-tune a synthesis of ancient Shipibo medicine traditions and modern and Eastern integrative practices that now extends to comprehensive aftercare and integration support long after guests have returned home. All this takes place with an institutional focus on sustainability, permaculture, ethics, and social responsibility.

We offer ayahuasca retreat programs of varying duration, focus, and intensity, with a balance of female and male Shipibo healers, experienced western facilitators, floral baths, a steam bath, a high ratio of healers to guests, a high number of ayahuasca ceremonies, individual consultations, a nutritional and balanced ayahuasca food diet, and a strong focus on how to process and integrate healing, both during and after each ayahuasca retreat.

The safety of our guests is paramount. We are constantly working to offer the safest container and most effective ayahuasca healing experience in the Amazon. We have developed the most stringent health and safety protocols available on any ayahuasca retreat in Peru. The Temple’s commitment to guests begins with in-depth medical and psychological screening during our booking procedure and continues after the retreat through our integration support. Guiding you safely through deep personal healing and growth is our priority, both in and out of ceremony.

I attended the 9 day retreat in november/december 2018. The facilitators did an amazing job working with us all as individuals and as a group i feel. I had an amazing experience, on i can say was absolutely terrifying and beautiful and loving all at the same time. The facility is basic, and whilst i thought i wanted something more lux for this heroes journey, it was actually exactly what i needed. The food was tasty and wholesome and the healers are just angels on earth. At the end of the retreat all of my intentions were fulfilled and to be truthful, i did not want to leave the jungle. I felt safe ad cared for at all times and look forward to the next time i return.

I had a 9 days retreat and it was amazing experience, facilitators were very helpful, knowledgable and attentive to everyone’s needs, maestros did a tremendous work working with energies and healing, the number of ceremonies was just right and very flexible, yoga classes were really helpful. The food was extremely good, I even didn’t feel that I am on the diet, I was looking forward to each meal. The whole setting is very relaxing and leaves unforgettible memories. That being said everyhing was extremely well organised and I would highly recommend this place to everyone looking for safe aya experience, I think anyone needs to try it at least once.

I can’t say enough positive things about the Temple. The facilities, the staff, the maestros and maestras, the setting, and the entire experience was phenomenal. I felt well cared for during the entirety of my 9-day retreat but never felt compelled or forced to do anything I was not ready for or comfortable with. The facilitators did an excellent job allowing each person in our 22-member group to explore the issues we truly needed, working with the healers and ayahuasca. The Temple also does an admirable job of working with the local community and is in the midst of growing their permaculture program to keep things sustainable. For both your own personal experience and for the efforts they’ve gone through to positively impact the locale, I would highly recommend this center.

I came to the Temple via its youtube channel – I’ve been exploring it for quite some time and have gotten a lot from all the different people that shared their experiences.

Still, I was pleasantly surprised at how this retreat is run, not to mention the fantastic, switched-on group of people I had the good fortune to be with for this experience. It took a little while but over the course of the ten days I connected with everyone – particularly the facilitators, who genuinely cared about everyone of us and the deep commitment they’ve taken with this medicine and the process.

The food was also something that I looked forward to – as were the other regular activities like pre-ceremony yoga, morning plant remedies and, of course, the integration meetings. I was even allowed some rule-breaking latitude in these meetings. 😉

I had a number of ceremonies before coming to the Temple and I responded well to the more hands-on way the maestros and maestras at the Temple were with us. They would frequently end their ikaros by spraying my head and hands with scented liquid and even push my body in a kind of energy alignment massage and I grew into the habit of returning the favour by grasping their hands or a shoulder and giving thanks. By this point I had gotten well into the experience was always able to connect with these ikaros.

Another thing that I benefited from was that our Ayahuasca was consistent night after night – it was much easier to choose the dose I wanted. Everything I’ve mentioned contributed to a beautiful, deeply personal, life changing experience.

The opportunity to take part in a 9 day Woman’s Ayahuasca retreat came at the perfect time. I was looking for a spiritual and deep experience, and a way to go deeper into many changes in my life.
From the moment I decided to go on this journey, I knew it was the right decision. The cost was completely appropriate and I would go further to say it was inexpensive compared to what I was prepared to spend. The ease of registering, and the level of helpful communication from the Temple was excellent. The care, and concern while registering signified the level of seriousness with which this process requires. The resources that were sent out a head of time, and the opportunity to meet other participants online in advance were excellent and supportive preparation. It also facilitated many of us meeting up in Iquitos and bonding before we even got to the Temple.
While at the Temple, everything that was communicated was exactly as it occurred, so no unexpected surprises. Each day was well organized with what was happening and what to expect. Workshops really helped in working through our experiences, setting intentions, holding space for each other, and learning from our journeys. The food was amazing. The Tambo was the perfect retreat before and after ceremonies. The yoga was an important part of the process and our teacher, Jenna, was really responsive to individual and group feedback. The facilitators were very open and supportive, and did an excellent job guiding us and teaching us. The Maestras were pure magic in the way they worked with my energy and helped with my healing.
It was great to be so far into the jungle and away from every day distractions. There was even a baby horse that was born in the village while we were there!
The post workshop integration guides have been tremendously helpful in continuing with integration. The community that was formed with the other participants bonded us for life, and even two weeks after the retreat, we are still communicating on an almost daily basis. To those who will listen, this was like 10 years of therapy condensed into one 9 day retreat and more helpful than anything else I’ve tried. Even better, I have a community of support now that I could never find in trying to do this work alone.
The level of care, trust, and respect for the ayahuasca journey was tremendous. I was humbled and honored and filled with gratitude to have the opportunity to work with what I felt were “experts”. I would recommend the Temple to anyone who feels called to this work, and I definitely plan to return. Thank you, Temple, for this gift. I can only hope that more people will take advantage of such an opportunity to make their lives more authentic and learn to be of service to themselves and others.
