Medicine and Ceremony
At Awakenings, we work with authentic ancestral medicines and offer the opportunity to participate in the preparation of Ayahuasca and San Pedro; allowing you to deposit your energy and intentions from the very beginning.
Our healing team includes:
• 4 experienced male Tsáchila shamans
• 1 female Tsáchila shaman (available upon request)
These are four generations of wisdom, born into the sacred path of medicine.

What is Ayahuasca?
“Ayahuasca” is the Quechua word for both the vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and the sacred tea made from it, traditionally combined with Chacruna leaves. It contains harmine, harmaline, and tetrahydroharmine. Used by Amazonian tribes for centuries, it opens portals to emotional and spiritual healing. Our vine grows on the property, and we prepare the medicine in the traditional way.
What is San Pedro?
San Pedro (Trichocereus pachanoi) is a sacred cactus native to the Andes of Ecuador. It carries masculine energy and helps us open our hearts and expand our connection with all life. We also grow this cactus on the land, and ceremonies are done with great reverence.
What is Kambo?
Kambo is a powerful healing ritual that uses the secretion of the giant monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor). Applied through small burns on the skin, Kambo detoxifies the body, boosts the immune system, and clears emotional blocks. It’s used for deep physical and energetic purification.

They work hard and plan far in advance to give guests the best and safest plant medicine experience. I highly recommend Awakenings Ayahuasca. The whole place was fantastic. As far as the Ayahuasca goes, I can’t believe something this powerful can actually exist, and that it can show us an entirely new reality that we are not aware of until we drink it. This ancient medicine seems to be snaking out of the jungle to reach us in our North American homes. And it holds precious and essential knowledge for our future.

April 18, 2023 at 10:01 pmIf you want to explore the traditional plant medicine I highly recommend Awakenings Ayahuasca and this Tsachila community The retreat is set in the Andes cloud forest and you can feel the spiritual energy of the property so intensely. My cabin was a comfortable and peaceful place to rest. They have 7, 10 or 14 day stays that included Ayahuasca, San Pedro and Kambo ceremonies. Shaman’s Manuel, Augusto and Juan come from a family of multi generational healers and it was such a privilege to participate in their ceremonies. Their sacred medicine was pure and filled with magic and will put you in direct contact with the spirit world. I drank “la medicina” because of my deliberate intention to learn, and ended up having an extraordinarily blissful and spiritually profound experience as the messages from the spirits came in clearly. With guidance from these shamans you will transform into the best version of yourself because they truly care about every single guest. In ceremony they created and nurtured a safe and positive space to unravel and grow, and that was the most important thing. The other guests were all so incredible. I didn’t expect to meet so many wonderful, open minded, kind, supportive and amazing people, yet I did. I highly recommend Awakenings Ayahuasca to anyone considering doing the plant medicines.

April 12, 2023 at 11:40 pmSuch a wonderful place and lovely people the Tasachila community Calazacon family. It was one of my best times. I learned a lot for myself, I felt safe at all times; felt in good hands and got to know such lovely people and was helped genuinely how to deal with my trauma. The sacred medicine ceremonies are amazing. Simply something worth my time. I really enjoyed bringing stuff for the little girls in the village that are very much in need. Juan Calazacon and Manuel calazacon are just something you have to see. I can’t put it into words. Thank you so much I will be back in August.

April 12, 2023 at 8:25 pmI just returned home from a 10 day retreat at Awakening’s Ayahuasca. To date it was the most valuable experience in my spiritual quest for knowledge, acceptance and forgiveness. The property is set in the Ecuadorian cloud forest where you will experience a oneness with nature, yourself and a wonderful Tsachila family. The cabins are designed for an indoor / outdoor experience yet outfitted with a comfortable queen size bed. Fernanda worked magic in the kitchen cooking the most delicious Ayahuasca dieta (vegetarian) meals. The most impressive part of the whole retreat were the ceremonies. All were guided in a very traditional and wise way by Manuel, his brother Augusto and Juan. I felt a deep feeling of gratitude and love, yet at the same time transformed in a way I cannot possibly put into words. All I can say is, I promise that the shamans here will grow roots in you, and the memories of their words, music, icaros, stories, and personalities will not only play a major role in your experience while there but also in the future. They will take your mind to places you have never dreamed possible and make you want to return again and again. I am planning to return in six months.

Follow your intuition and be ready for a multidimensional adventure. My path in this life has been an amazing journey so for me it is no surprise I found such an incredible and life changing place. The Tsachila family of shamans who run it deserve the highest accolades. My decision to do Ayahuasca with them has been a priceless investment that I will never forget.
