Arkana Spiritual Center

Iquitos and Urubamba in Peru

Our Program
At Arkana, we create the space for you to get in touch with your truth, opening your path for deeper meaning and greater fulfillment in your life. We work with ancestral medicines such as Ayahuasca, San Pedro, Bufo Alvarius, Rapé , using the traditional practices of the indigenous cultures of the Peruvian Amazon. We currently operate two centers in Peru, one in the Peruvian Amazon and a second one in the Sacred Valley (close to Machu Picchu), and one in Mexico, the choice is yours.

With great respect for the plants and the knowledge and healing that comes with them, our lineage of Shipibo shamans set the stage for truly deep and profound healing. Awaken your inner power through their sacred and powerful icaros (healing songs), and discover your connection to all things by exploring some of the 2.2 million hectare Pacaya Samiria National Reserve which is our backyard. Nourish your body and soul with fresh, clean, delicious meals that promote your Ayahuasca experience, and integrate healthy habits into your routine with our yoga classes and extensive selection of gym equipment for all levels. We believe the health of physical body sets the foundation for the health of the energetic body – Often ignored in this type of spiritual work, we find this to be an important part of the healing process, so you can begin implementing the healthy habits that will carry this work with you into your life back home. Finally, relax your mind and spirit with sound baths, meditations, breathwave sessions, and OM circles, or simply enjoy the tranquil views of both sunrise and sunset from our front porch on the banks of the Ucayali River, surrounded by lush biodiversity and the mesmerizing sounds of the jungle.

Arkana’s exceptional team of highly-trained Shipibo Master Shamans represent an unbroken lineage of plant medicine work. With a combined history of over 70 years of experience working closely with Ayahuasca and other master plant teachers of the jungle, our compassionate healers lovingly share their teachings, healing songs (icaros), capabilities, and knowledge with integrity and honor. We strive to maintain the traditional practices passed down through thousands of years of indigenous Amazonian culture, in order to continue to promote the true purpose and nature of plant medicine work.

Experiencing the medicines with us is a transformative personal journey, and so much more. We also work closely with our local community, the Amazonian village of Libertad, to ensure that our Center can benefit and give back to the people who have so generously let us into their homes and hearts. We create employment opportunities, teach free English classes, provide a space for the ladies to sell their handmade crafts, and assist in construction projects, among other things. Our latest endeavor is outfitting the entire village with free solar panels, so every house can have light and electricity. When you join us, you are helping the rainforest and the Amazon communities that live here.

Guests that come to our Center often say they feel like “part of the family” with us – that’s no coincidence, as we are one big family at Arkana! The people that are with you throughout your experience can simply facilitate your own healing journey or become an integral part of it. Our experienced, loving, and professional team of caregivers welcomes you to join our tribe, where we strive to make you feel at home and at ease, supported and cared for with all the love and compassion that is at the core of the plant medicines and people we work with.

Ayahuasca is a powerful medicine that offers us the opportunity to understand our true nature, by shining a light onto our darkness, and holding a mirror up to our fears, negative thought patterns, and self-limiting beliefs. We provide the environment and expertise of a team of highly skilled, warm, compassionate Shamans and facilitators to guide you through the process of awakening, of choosing differently, healing, and expanding. It is a slow but steady path towards freedom – from fear, from illusion, from self-constructed boundaries – resulting in a lighter, brighter, more authentic self, and the full experience of love. It is our honor to help you on this most fulfilling of all journeys: the journey back home.

We look forward to having you with us!

Lots of Love,
The Team

First off, I can’t say enough good things about my experience with Pulse Tours. The itinerary is well designed, and the staff is very professional. They are very accommodating and are more than willing to assist individual needs and preferences. The ceremonies are powerful, which makes Pulse Tours the ideal location for a transformative experience. Overall, I highly recommend Pulse Tours to anybody seeking an incredible journey.

I’ve traveled to over 15 countries… my week at the ayahuasca adventure was the most unbelievable, profound experience of my entire life. All of the staff are full of love and light who love connecting with all of their guests. I was very impressed with the operations from the time I arrived to the time I left – felt safe the entire time as well. Ayahuasca is the most incredible, intelligent medicine I have ever come into contact with, the ability it has to cure you on a physical, mental, emotion, and spiritual is something you cannot fathom until you experience it. I cannot imagine going to a different retreat, I’ll hopefully be returning in March.

Pulse Tours, and their Ayahuasca Adventure Center are absolutely top teir, and undoubtedly changed my life for the better. I attended the New Year’s Eve retreat from December 2016, to January 2017 and will never forget it.

Where to begin… For a short period, you may explore Iquitos with the whole group, buying supplies, sampling a few great ayahuasca friendly restaurants, and bonding as a group. I thought this was an excellent format, as it can be a little intimidating drinking the medicine for the first time with complete strangers. Then it’s off to the retreat center. The amenities are just fine. Sleep in your bungalo, or more likely, lounge in the maloca with your new friends, or watch the stars until you fall asleep. The food was good. Even surprisingly so, and they accommodate any diet you wish to follow. The center also has a gym(!), library, meditation tree and more for your daily activities. Unlike many other centers, Pulse also provides some very unique activities, such as Jungle expeditions, Caiman hunting, and piranha fishing. The local guide, Falcon was knowledgeable on everything from geography, to wildlife, and the plant medicines themselves (I recommend anyone interested in the medicines, ceremonies, and dietas to attend the jungle hike).

The Staff, I can’t say enough good about. They are well trained, knowledgable, wonderful people that will guide your journey, pick you up when you need it most, and chill with you all day. I truly feel like I made some great friends in the staff as well. The Shaman here are some incredibly wise badasses too. I was unfamiliar with the format of an ayahuasca ceremony, and was blown away by the beautifully orchestrated guidance of Wiler, Ernesto, and Angela.

If you are on a more isolated and deeply personal journey, Pulse will happily work with you there too, but I found this to be a social trip full of amazing, diverse new friends by the end of the week. Perfect for me, going in with the intent of working on being more outgoing.

My review may be all over the place, but there’s so much more to the Ayahuasca Adventure Center that I could go on for pages. I’ll leave it at this: I was nervous about taking on such an adventure. I’m sure most first timers are. But Pulse made me feel at home. I can’t imagine having picked any other retreat center, as I wouldn’t trade the memories and friends I made for anything!

I did the 7 day ayahuasca retreat which was great because I it involved 4 ceremonies which was a good number to get used to the medicine and take you through the journey. And it is a journey. What I would say is as they all say trust the experience, accept it, and give thanks through each ceremony as it’s all part of the process.
The food was brilliant – although it gets bland at the end, you are being fed the best food you can have that will fit in with the ayahuasca diet so it’s great to be cooked for and know It’s what you need as a basis for the medicine.
We got to do excursions in the days which was a wonderful combination. I didn’t want to be bored in the jungle and we didn’t..
Doing 2 days ayahuasca then a night off for reflection then the next two definitely worked best for me. If there was a thing they could improve would be to put some activities together. Different activities were split out so that you were never stuck for time but in some ways worked against you because you couldn’t get enough time for an afternoon nap for example
The retreat started with a Kambo ceremony which was a perfect start because it’s cleanses your body ready for the ceremonies ahead.
The meditation before the third ceremony was amazing. I felt it run through every chakra which was crazy.
The accommodation was much more basic than imagined – no lights, so torchlight only for example and the wifi was virtually non existent. I think it could be quite easy to have a few more guiding lamps around. And I appreciate limited /slow internet is quite probable in the jungle! But think it could have been said on the guide. Also I know its good to keep away from outside world to reflect but just a little more workable time would have been good.
But that aside, that’s side issues. The main thing is the ayahuasca experience and I being done in the best environment with the best people possible and I felt this was so. It was great to relax into the experience and feel 100% safe with the shamans and facilitators to have the best experience I came for.
The whole pulse team are all lovely – the facilitators / team / guides / boatsman / shamans – thank you to all of you! They care about your experience and want it to be good and help you.
It was helpful to get feedback from them of experiences too. Although everyone is different in what happens it’s just really reassuring to discuss over lunch or wherever.
Overall I had a brilliant experience. Many thanks!
