March 2, 2025 at 8:12 amI stayed in this place for a time, and it is absolutely a dangerous cult. They routinely change their name to distance themselves from issues that have arisen because of the hierarchal, patriarchal power dynamics: Casa Copal, Willka Hampi, Hospedaje Choquepata, etc.
I never participated in any ceremony or event because of the level of toxic herd mentality. When you agree to stay there, they make you sign a contract not to eat meat, fish or eggs (cheese is allowed tho because they’re french…convenient), and that you will partake of no medicine unless you sit with their “guru” named Copal who sits up on his mountain side home and rarely descends on the serfs. And everyone watches you…like, the lower level members have been assigned the duty of walking the premises every day and making sure that people are following the rules? Self-policing, or top-fown ordered policing.
Everyone living there has some kind of affirmation yogic name, and a very clear hierarchy with typical power dynamics exists. At the head of it is very manipulative woman named Madhurya Devi Das . She somehow is the representative for Guru Copal? But the dynamic is reminiscent of that cult show “The Light” where it turns out there is no guru and it’s just some ego maniac grabbing at power while the “guru” is either bedridden or doesn’t exist at all. I never actually saw the guy.
They routinely kick people out of their space for no reason, or they will lie to your face. It’s like they treat everyone who wants a little visit in the mountains like they’re in a rehab program.
10000% cannot recommend for anyone. I’ve actually reported this place to the worldwide cult watch list, it’s that bad.
